Gli Oscar del 1994

E’ ancora una volta il Dorothy Chandler Pavilion di Los Angeles ad accogliere la serata d’onore per la premiazione con gli Academy Awards, gli Oscar cinematografici, il mondo del cinema.
E’ la sera del 21 marzo 1994, l’edizione è quella numero 66 e a condurre la serata è l’attrice americana Whoopi Goldberg.
Sono quattro i film che hanno raccolto il maggior numero di nomination: Schindler’s List regia di Steven Spielberg, Lezioni di piano regia di Jane Campion,Jurassic Park regia di Steven Spielberg e infine Philadelphia diretto da Jonathan Demme.
Mentre Lezioni di piano e Schindler list concorrono per il premio alla miglior regia, Jurassic Park e Philadelphia corrono per altri premi.
Alla fine proprio l’altro film di Spielberg, quel Jurassic Park in nomination per tre statuette, fa l’en plein vincendo i premi per il Miglior sonoro assegnato a Ron Judkins, Gary Summers, Gary Rydstrom e Shawn Murphy,per il Miglior montaggio sonoro a Gary Rydstrom e Richard Hymns e infine per i Migliori effetti speciali a Dennis Muren, Stan Winston, Phil Tippett e Michael Lantieri.
Schindler’s list è comunque il grande trionfatore della serata con 7 Oscar vinti su 12 nomination; a sorpresa però sfugge al film di Spielberg la statuetta per il miglior attore protagonista.
A Liam Neason, interprete del personaggio di Oskar Schindler la giuria preferisce un intenso Tom Hanks interprete di Phliadelphia, che vincerà un secondo Oscar con Streets of Philadelphia, musica e testo di Bruce Springsteen.
Schindler’s List va vicino al record assoluto di nomination;la mancanza di un’attrice protagonista e il ruolo minore che hanno le donne nel film impedisce uno storico record; è Holly Hunter a vincere la statuetta come migliore attrice, per la sua performance nell’intenso film della Champion Lezioni di piano.L’attrice statunitense ebbe anche una nomination come miglior attrice non protagonista per il film Il socio, ma la giuria a sorpresa scelse Anna Paquin, la undicenne attrice canadese naturalizzata neozelandese che diventò così la seconda attrice di sempre a vincere un Oscar in tenera età dietro Tatum O’Neal che aveva vinto l’Oscar a 10 anni per Paper Moon – Luna di carta.
Jane Campion, la regista di Lezioni di piano film con il quale aveva avuto 8 candidature porta a casa la statuetta per la miglior sceneggiatura originale, completando il tris di premi tutti al femminile mentre ancora una volta è Schindler list a vincere nella categoria miglior sceneggiatura non originale. Tra gli uomini è Tommy Lee Jones con Il fuggitivo a vincere la statuetta per la miglior interpretazione da attore non protagonista.
A Deborah Kerr viene assegnata la statuetta alla carriera: dopo ben 6 nomination senza vittorie Hollywood rende così omaggio alla bella ed elegante attrice scozzese.
Tra le curiosità della serata, troviamo quella di Steve Spielberg che razzia 10 Oscar grazie ai sette vinti con Schindler list e ai tre con Jurassic park.
Il regista di Cincinnati è al primo dei suoi quattro Oscar, due come regista (Schindler’s list e Salvate il soldato Ryan), uno come miglior film a cui va aggiunto l’ Oscar alla memoria Irving G. Thalberg 1987 con un palmares personale di ben 15 nomination.
Se c’è uno sconfitto della serata va trovato in Quel che resta del giorno film del 1993 diretto da James Ivory, tratto dal romanzo omonimo di Kazuo Ishiguro che riceve ben 8 nomination ma nessuna statuetta mentre curioso il caso di Cliffhanger, film diretto da Renny Harlin e Alan Marshall che riceve dapprima una nomination ai Razzie awards come peggior film e una nomination agli Oscar.
